How we compared

We compared six alternatives to Kindroid on the nine dimensions of our companions desk: customization, memory, photos and voice and calls, content rules, credits and tokens, privacy and training, age verification, cancellation and refunds, and user reports. We also compared starting price, free tier and platforms. The table above shows every fact side by side, last checked on 25 October 2026.

Every fact comes from the apps’ own pricing pages, terms, privacy policies and help articles, and from App Store listings. Review site figures and prices that appear only behind a login come from third-party sources and are marked. Where an app does not publish a fact, we say “Not stated” or “not published”.

For this report we weighed the dimensions by the reasons people give for leaving Kindroid. Price comes first, because Kindroid is one of the most expensive apps on the desk and its free preview is one-time. Memory comes next, because it is the main reason people chose Kindroid in the first place, and an alternative that forgets is not a real replacement. Media, refunds, content rules and privacy follow.

Why do people look for a Kindroid alternative?

Kindroid has the most documented memory on the desk, live voice and video calls, written NSFW rules and apps on web, iOS and Android. Five limits still push users to look elsewhere.

Price. Kindroid costs $15.99 a month on the App Store, $42.99 for 3 months or $159.99 a year. The web price is usually lower. The Ultra and MAX tiers are add-ons at $28.99 and $68.99. Selfie credits, in packs of 50 or 100, and audio credits, in a 500k pack, cost extra above the monthly grant.

No ongoing free tier. The free option is a one-time preview of 50 messages, 5 selfies and 2 Kindroids. The 3-day trial needs a payment method and converts to a paid plan.

Refunds. Refunds are case-by-case, and the docs say sales are generally final. There is no prorated refund.

Training and age checks. Chats are kept until you delete the AI or the account, and they are encrypted at rest and in transit, but not end to end. Training use of chats is not published. Payment on file counts as age verification, and flagged free users must verify with a Yoti selfie or a government ID.

User reports. On Trustpilot, Kindroid has 2.6 out of 5 from 20 reviews, with complaints about NSFW limits, billing and memory (third-party).

The six apps below each fix some of these limits. None matches Kindroid on every dimension.

Nomi: why is it our pick?

Nomi is our pick because it is the only alternative whose memory comes close to Kindroid’s, and it costs much less.

What it does well. Memory works on short, medium and long-term levels, with a Mind Map view of what the companion has learned. Companions send selfies, image art, AI video and voice messages, and you can make hands-free voice calls. It has group chats. Free chat needs no card, so you can try it without a payment method, unlike Kindroid’s trial. It has native iOS and Android apps, web and an API, so you lose no platform by switching.

Where it falls short. It has no live video calls. Its adult rules are written only in the App Store listing, which lists sexual content or nudity with in-app controls, and NSFW selfies may fail. The privacy policy refers to training archives, so training use is unclear. Payments are not refundable except at Nomi’s discretion. Videos and requests after daily limits run out cost Nomi Credits, from 40 credits for $4.99. On Trustpilot it has 2.3 out of 5 from 42 reviews, with praise for memory and complaints about refunds and filters (third-party).

Price. The Launch Plan costs $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year on the App Store. Standard costs $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $99.99 a year.

Who it suits. Kindroid users who want the same kind of long-term memory and native apps at a lower yearly cost.

ourdream.ai: the pick for images and video

ourdream.ai puts chat, images, video and voice calls in one plan, with a published coin price for each action.

What it does well. OurDream’s homepage FAQ says both plans include 1,000 dreamcoins each month. Its help center says subscribers receive 1,000 dreamcoins on their billing anniversary and that dreamcoins do not refresh monthly. Ask support how this applies to the yearly plan before you budget around it. The help center lists the costs: 50 coins a minute for voice calls, 10 coins for 2 images and 100 coins for each 5 seconds of video. Its prohibited-content policy is detailed and public, and it allows fictional non-consent where the user is the target. It uses a third-party Go.cam or AgeVerif ID or face check where the law requires it, for example in the UK and Australia.

Where it falls short. Memory is not documented beyond a homepage claim, which is a large step down from Kindroid. Media drains coins fast: a 1,000-coin grant covers about 20 minutes of calls or 50 seconds of video. The privacy page says user data may train AI models. There is no refund once more than 25% of a plan is used, and crypto payments are not refunded. Free users pay 1 coin per chat message. It is web only.

Price. $9.99 a month billed yearly ($119.88), or $19.99 a month.

Who it suits. Users who want images and video of their companion more than deep memory.

Joi AI: the largest character library

Joi AI has a large library of creator-made characters and a third-party age check.

What it does well. You can create characters with a set look, personality, behavior and kinks, or chat with licensed creator characters. Photos and videos come in chat, and it also generates images and video. Age is checked through VerifyMyAge by email check, facial age estimation or government ID, depending on region. On Trustpilot it has 3.9 out of 5 from 263 reviews (third-party).

Where it falls short. Explicit messages cost extra: 4 Neurons each, with photos up to 120 Neurons and videos up to 1,900. Plan prices are not published. Voice features are not documented. Memory has no documented limits. The terms say chats may be disclosed in a chargeback dispute. Refunds within 14 days apply only to fraud or a one-time error. It is web only.

Price. Not published. Premium is billed monthly to yearly, and Neurons are sold separately.

Who it suits. Users who want ready-made creator characters and accept pay-per-message costs.

Secrets AI: clear deletion rules and high user ratings

Secrets AI has the clearest data-deletion rules of the six and the highest third-party user rating.

What it does well. Chats are deleted when you delete your account, and call audio is deleted after transcription. The terms allow explicit adult content and ban minors, non-consent, extreme violence, revenge porn and impersonation. It makes AI images, videos and reels and supports audio calls. On Trustpilot it has 4.5 out of 5 from 282 reviews (third-party).

Where it falls short. The privacy policy says chats may train AI models. The age check is a self-attestation, and the service excludes regions that require verification. Official prices sit behind a login. Payments and Moments purchases are final, apart from a 14-day right on the first purchase in the EU and UK. Users cannot upload images, and it is web only.

Price. About $13.33 a month billed yearly, and Premium at $19.99 a month, according to third-party sources.

Who it suits. Users who value clear deletion rules and story-led companion videos.

Candy AI: the lowest yearly price

Candy AI has the lowest yearly price of the six after DreamGF’s first year ($44.28) and a detailed character builder.

What it does well. The yearly plan costs $3.99 a month, or $47.88 a year, less than a third of Kindroid’s $159.99. The builder sets ethnicity, age range, eyes, hair, body, personality, voice and hobbies. Chat is unlimited, and it has images, voice messages, voice calls in beta and short videos made from generated images. Its refund rule is written: card payments are refunded within 24 hours if 20 tokens or fewer were used, and EU and UK users have a 14-day right of withdrawal. Where it falls short. Media runs on a small token grant: 100 tokens a month on Premium and 330 on Premium Plus. Memory is limited: Premium Plus has 20 memory slots, and memory ties to the active chat. Chats may be de-identified to train AI models, and account data is kept up to 3 years after last activity. The age check is a self-declaration. It is web only.

Price. $3.99 a month billed yearly ($47.88). The monthly plan costs $9.99 for the first month, then $13.99. The 3-month plan costs $26.97.

Who it suits. Budget users who chat more than they call and want a detailed builder.

DreamGF: a cheap first month

DreamGF has a low first price and a published token list, but the price rises sharply on renewal.

What it does well. The builder mixes face, body and clothing options. Companions send real-time photos, voice messages and short videos, and you can make voice calls. The token list is public: 100 tokens a month, with a companion at 20 tokens, an image at 10, a voice message at 3 and a voice call at 7 a minute. A free account gets a daily bonus of 10 to 50 messages.

Where it falls short. Memory is not documented, which matters most for a Kindroid user. The monthly plan costs $12.99 for the first month and then $25.98. There are no refunds after any use, a promotion can lock cancellation for 30 days, and a $1.99 monthly maintenance charge may apply. The age check is a self-confirmation, and UK access is blocked until verification is available. Training use of chats is not published.

Price. $12.99 for the first month, then $25.98 a month. The yearly plan costs $44.28 for the first year, then $88.56.

Who it suits. Users who want a cheap first month of photos and voice, and will check the renewal date.

How do the alternatives compare with Kindroid?

• Customization. Kindroid sets name, personality, backstory, appearance and voice, with custom voices for subscribers. Candy AI and DreamGF have the most detailed visual builders.
• Memory. Kindroid leads with journals of up to 500 entries and cascaded memory. Nomi is close. Candy AI lists 20 memory slots on Premium Plus. ourdream.ai, Joi AI and DreamGF publish no limits.
• Photos, voice and calls. Kindroid is the only app with live video calls. Nomi, ourdream.ai, Secrets AI, Candy AI and DreamGF have voice calls. Joi AI does not document voice.
• Content rules. Kindroid, ourdream.ai, Joi AI, Secrets AI, Candy AI and DreamGF publish written rules. Nomi’s adult rules sit only in its App Store listing.
• Credits and tokens. Kindroid and Candy AI give unlimited chat. Joi AI charges per explicit message, ourdream.ai charges free users per message, and Nomi charges credits after daily limits.
• Privacy and training. Kindroid does not publish training use. ourdream.ai, Secrets AI and Candy AI say data may train models. Joi AI and DreamGF do not publish it, and Nomi refers to training archives.
• Age verification. Kindroid, ourdream.ai and Joi AI use real checks in some or all cases. The others rely on self-declaration.
• Cancellation and refunds. All seven apps limit refunds. Candy AI has the clearest written rule, and DreamGF the strictest.
• Platforms. Only Nomi matches Kindroid’s web, iOS, Android and API. The other five are web only.

Which one should you choose?

Choose Nomi if you want to keep what made Kindroid good and pay less. Its memory is the closest match, it has voice calls and native apps, and free chat needs no card. The Launch yearly plan costs $59.99 on the App Store. You give up live video calls.

Choose ourdream.ai if images and video matter more than memory. Choose Joi AI for creator-made characters and a real age check, Secrets AI for clear deletion rules, and Candy AI for the lowest yearly price at $47.88. DreamGF suits users who want a cheap first month and will cancel or budget for the higher renewal price.
