These two apps sit first and second in our ranking, and they are close. Nomi is cheaper to start, and its memory is near Kindroid’s. Kindroid writes down its NSFW rules, adds live video calls and checks age more firmly. Weighed together, Kindroid is our pick.

How do Kindroid and Nomi compare on each dimension?

The two apps are even on several points and split on the rest. The sections below go through each dimension in order.

Customization: how much can you set?

Kindroid gives a little more direct control. You set the name, personality, backstory, appearance and voice, and subscribers can use custom voices.

Nomi works through text and images. You write a backstory and preferences, and you set the look through its image system. Nomi’s published facts do not mention custom voices. Both let you shape personality in writing, so the gap is mainly voice.

Memory: which one remembers you better?

Kindroid documents more layers. Nomi shows its memory more clearly. This is the closest dimension.

Kindroid’s memory doc lists a backstory, key memories, long-term memory, journals with up to 500 entries and, for subscribers, cascaded memory. That is the most detailed memory documentation in the companion desk.

Nomi has short, medium and long-term memory. Its Mind Map view shows what the companion has learned. Kindroid’s published docs do not describe a similar view. If you want to see and check what your companion remembers, the Mind Map is a real advantage. Third-party Trustpilot reviews of Nomi also praise its memory.

Photos, voice and calls: what can each one send?

Kindroid has the wider set because it adds live video calls. Nomi adds AI video clips, which Kindroid covers with video selfies.

Kindroid offers photo and video selfies, voice messages, live voice calls and live video calls. It also has group chats.

Nomi offers selfies, image art, AI video, voice messages and hands-free voice calls, plus group chats. NSFW selfies may fail, which is one of the weak points in its published record.

Content rules: which one writes down what adults can do?

Kindroid does. Its own moderation guidelines allow NSFW and erotic roleplay. Nomi’s adult content is stated only in its App Store listing, not in its terms.

Kindroid’s guidelines set clear bans: CSAM, imminent self-harm, harm to others and non-consensual images of real people. The guidelines allow NSFW and erotic roleplay in chat.

Nomi’s App Store listing rates the app 18+ and lists sexual content or nudity with in-app controls. Its terms of service do not set adult-content rules. They ban planning harm to others. So the only written source for Nomi’s adult content is a store listing. If you want rules in the company’s own documents, Kindroid has them and Nomi does not. Third-party Trustpilot reviews of Nomi include complaints about filters. Kindroid’s include complaints about NSFW limits, so neither app is free of friction here.

Credits and tokens: what costs extra?

Both charge for extras beyond the plan. Kindroid states that chat is unlimited.

Kindroid includes unlimited chat. Selfies and voice above the monthly grant need paid credits: selfie packs of 50 or 100, and an audio pack of 500k credits.

Nomi uses Nomi Credits, from 40 credits for $4.99. Credits pay for videos and for requests after daily limits run out.

Privacy and training: what happens to your chats?

Neither app gives a clear answer on training. Kindroid says more about storage. Nomi says more about deletion timing.

Kindroid keeps chats until you delete the AI or the account. They are encrypted at rest and in transit, but not end-to-end. Whether chats train models is not published.

Nomi’s privacy policy refers to training archives, so training use of chats is unclear. Personal data is removed about 28 days after account deletion.

Age verification: how does each check that you are an adult?

Kindroid checks more firmly. Nomi relies on the age you give at sign-up.

Kindroid is 18+. Payment on file counts as verification, and flagged free users must verify with a Yoti selfie or a government ID.

Cancellation and refunds: what happens when you stop?

Both are strict. Nomi is easier to try without a card.

Nomi offers free chat with no card required. Paid plans auto-renew, benefits last to the end of the period, payments are non-refundable and refunds happen only at Nomi’s discretion. Third-party Trustpilot reviews of Nomi include complaints about refunds. Kindroid’s include complaints about billing.

Both have low third-party ratings from small samples, so neither has a clear lead.

Kindroid has 2.6 out of 5 from 20 reviews on Trustpilot, with complaints about NSFW limits, billing and memory. Nomi has 2.3 out of 5 from 42 reviews, with praise for memory and complaints about refunds and filters. Both figures come from third-party sources.

How much do Kindroid and Nomi cost?

Nomi is cheaper to start and on the quarterly and yearly plans. Its Standard monthly plan costs the same $15.99 as Kindroid’s App Store monthly price. Kindroid’s App Store prices are higher, though Kindroid says its web prices are usually lower.

Kindroid’s Ultra and MAX tiers add more on top of the base plan. Nomi does not publish higher tiers, but its credit packs work in a similar way for extras.

Worked from these prices, Kindroid’s yearly plan is about $13.33 a month, and Nomi’s is about $8.33 a month. Over a year, that is $60 less on Nomi. At the entry level, Nomi’s Launch plan saves $6 a month against Kindroid’s App Store price. Nomi’s Standard plan costs the same $15.99 as Kindroid’s monthly plan, so the saving depends on which Nomi plan you need. Kindroid’s web price may close part of the gap, but Kindroid does not publish the web figures in the sources we used.

Both apps charge extra for media beyond the plan. A user who wants many selfies, voice minutes or videos should budget for credit packs on either app.
