Adult AI services now check age in very different ways. A few use a named third-party provider, many apply a check only where the law requires it, and many still rely on a click or a checkbox.

Why do adult AI services check age?

Age checks exist to keep minors away from sexual content. Every hosted service in this brief requires users to be 18 or older (the local tools listed near the end have no account and no check), and the published checks often apply only “where the law requires” them.

That phrase appears again and again in the facts below. In practice, it means a user in one country may pass a simple age gate, while a user in another country must show a face or an ID. JanitorAI, for example, checks IPs in Australia, Brazil and the UK. SpicyChat checks in the UK, France, Italy, Australia and 26 US states. OurDream names the UK and Australia as examples.

Some services choose a different route. DreamGF blocks UK access until verification is available. Secrets AI excludes regions that require age verification. Third-party sources report that Chub AI is blocked for Australian users.

We sort the services into four groups below: named third-party checks, checks by an unnamed third party, self-declaration only, and no check at all.

Which services use a named third-party check?

Five services name the provider that runs their age check. This is the most transparent approach in this brief.

JanitorAI

JanitorAI uses 18+ self-declaration in most places and k-ID for IPs in Australia, Brazil and the UK. In those countries, users can choose a face estimate, an ID photo or a reused check.

Kindroid

Kindroid treats a payment method on file as age verification. Free users who are flagged must verify with a Yoti selfie or a government ID.

The same rule applies to Kindroid’s voice features. Paid users with a payment method on file are covered, and flagged free users get the Yoti or ID check. Kindroid also requires users to be 18 or older.

Joi AI

Joi AI uses VerifyMyAge. Depending on region, the check is an email check, a facial age estimation or a government ID.

The published fact does not list which option applies in which region.

OurDream

OurDream uses a self-confirmation at sign-up. Where the law requires it, for example in the UK and Australia, it adds an ID or face check through Go.cam or AgeVerif.

For OurDream video generation, the published fact is an 18+ click-through gate, with a third-party age assurance check where the law requires it. That entry does not name the provider.

SpicyAPI

SpicyAPI runs a one-time check by VerifyMy where local law requires it. Elsewhere, users self-declare that they are 18 or older.

The Spicy API voice service is 18+ only, and some regions need a one-time age check before API use.

Which services use an unnamed third-party check?

Two services describe a third-party check but do not name the provider in our facts. One more is reported to use a paid check, according to third-party sources.

SpicyChat

SpicyChat uses video selfie or ID checks by third parties in the UK, France, Italy, Australia and 26 US states. It covers more regions than any other text service in this brief.

Candy AI

Candy AI’s products share one age gate, a self-declaration of 18+ at entry. The Candy AI companion app says it may add more checks per local law.

Candy.ai video uses the same self-declaration of 18+ at entry, and Candy’s privacy notice lists results of third-party age estimation or verification, depending on the user’s location. The Candy AI voice product has a self-affirmed 18+ age gate, and its privacy notice mentions third-party age estimation.

CrushOn.AI

CrushOn.AI requires users to be 18 or older in its privacy policy. Third-party sources report a paid age check before the 18+ toggle in some regions.

Which services rely on self-declaration only?

Many services ask users to state their age and describe no further check. Some add a check only where the law forces it.

NovelAI

NovelAI requires users to be 18 or older in its terms. No verification method is published.

Chub AI

Chub AI requires users to be 18 or older in its terms, and no verification method was found. Third-party sources report that it is blocked for Australian users.

AI Dungeon

AI Dungeon asks users to confirm they are 18 or older when they turn on the Mature setting. No other check is described.

DreamGF

DreamGF uses an age gate and a sign-up checkbox for self-confirmation. It blocks UK access until verification is available.

Secrets AI

Secrets AI asks for self-attestation of 18+ at sign-up. It excludes regions that require age verification.

Nomi

Nomi requires users to be 18 or older and asks for age at sign-up. Its App Store listing shows an Age Assurance control, and it says it may add more checks.

Nureta

Nureta asks users to confirm they are 18 or older before generation. The confirmation is enforced on the server and stored in a 30-day cookie.

Seduced

Seduced in Animate video mode requires users to be 18 or older. It may deny access if adequate age verification is not given. The method is not published.

Promptchan

Promptchan in video mode requires users to be 18 or older in its terms, and users represent their age. No verification method is published.

Civitai.red

The Civitai.red video generator uses 18+ self-declaration in its terms. Some countries are geo-blocked for compliance reasons.

DreamPress AI

DreamPress AI asks users to self-declare that they are 18 or older at sign-up. Checks may be required where the law demands them.

ElevenLabs

ElevenLabs requires users to be 18 or older in its terms. No verification method is described.

Which tools have no age check, or do not publish one?

Local and self-hosted tools have no account, so they have no age check. One desktop app does not publish an age policy at all. Your own device runs the software or model.

SillyTavern

SillyTavern has no age verification. It is self-hosted software that runs on the user’s own computer.

Wan 2.2 via ComfyUI

Wan 2.2, run locally through ComfyUI, has no account or age check. An age policy is not published.

Kokoro-82M

Kokoro-82M is a local model with no age verification.

Voxta

For Voxta, the age policy is not published, so whether it checks age is unknown.

How do the main check methods differ?

The services in this brief use six kinds of check. They range from a click to a government ID, and some services combine two or more.

Self-declaration. The user clicks a gate, ticks a box or enters an age at sign-up. NovelAI, Chub AI, AI Dungeon, DreamGF, Secrets AI, Nomi, Nureta, Promptchan, Civitai.red, DreamPress and ElevenLabs rely on this in our facts. Nureta enforces the confirmation on the server and stores it in a 30-day cookie.

Payment on file. Kindroid treats a payment method on file as verification for paid users. This links age to a payment method.

Email check. Joi AI uses an email check through VerifyMyAge in some regions. It is the only service in this brief that lists an email check.

Face estimate or video selfie. JanitorAI offers a k-ID face estimate. Kindroid uses a Yoti selfie for flagged free users. Joi AI uses facial age estimation in some regions. SpicyChat uses a video selfie, and OurDream lists a face check.

ID document. JanitorAI accepts an ID photo. Kindroid accepts a government ID. Joi AI, OurDream and SpicyChat also list an ID check.

Geo-blocking. Some services block regions instead of checking age there. DreamGF blocks the UK, Secrets AI excludes regions that require verification, and Civitai.red geo-blocks some countries for compliance reasons. Third-party sources report the same for Chub AI in Australia.

Most services with a strong check use it only in some regions. In other regions, the same service falls back to self-declaration. So the check you see depends on where you connect from.

What should users look for in an age check?

Look for a service that names its provider, offers more than one method, and lets you reuse a check. Then read what the provider and the service say they keep.

• A named provider. JanitorAI (k-ID), Kindroid (Yoti), Joi AI (VerifyMyAge), OurDream (Go.cam or AgeVerif) and SpicyAPI (VerifyMy) all name theirs. A named provider lets you read that provider’s own privacy terms before you upload a face or an ID.
• A choice of method. JanitorAI offers a face estimate, an ID photo or a reused check. Joi AI offers an email check in some regions. A choice lets you pick the method that shares the least about you.
• A one-time or reused check. SpicyAPI describes its check as one-time. JanitorAI accepts a reused k-ID check. A check you do once is less exposure than a check you repeat.
• No payment needed to prove age. Kindroid counts a payment method on file as verification for paid users. Third-party sources report that CrushOn.AI charges for its age check in some regions. Decide whether you are comfortable linking payment to age.
• A clear answer on what is kept. Most services in this brief do not say, in our facts, what happens to the face scan or ID after the check. If a service does not say, ask support before you upload anything.

Self-declaration is easy for users, but it relies on the user telling the truth. A strong check with a named provider asks more of you, so the details of what is stored matter most there.
