How we compared

We compared the free options of the seven adult image generators in our image desk. For each one we asked three questions: what you get for free, what the limit is, and what the first paid step costs. We then compared all seven on the ten dimensions of our image desk: models and styles, character consistency, editing tools, content rules, cost per image, ownership and private mode, privacy and retention, age verification, setup and ease of use, and user reports. The table above shows every fact side by side, last checked on 24 October 2026.

Every fact comes from the services’ own pricing pages, terms, privacy policies and help articles. Review site figures come from third-party sources and are marked. Where a service does not publish a fact, we say so, and we write “Not stated” rather than guess a limit.

For this report the free tier weighs most. A tool with no free use cannot be the pick, however good its paid plan is. After that come cost per image, because free tiers run out, then privacy, then models and editing. What does “free” really mean for each generator?

“Free” means very different things across these seven services. Only one gives unlimited use, and it runs on your own hardware.

1. ComfyUI: why is it our pick?

ComfyUI is our pick because it is the only generator here that is free with no limit. The local app is open source under GPL-3.0, runs offline and loads any model you choose.

What it does well. It supports open model families including SD 1.5, SDXL, SD3.5, Flux and Qwen Image, plus any local checkpoint or LoRA. Character consistency comes through LoRAs, reference conditioning and image-edit models such as Flux Kontext. Editing is the most complete here: inpaint, outpaint, masks, ControlNets, upscaling and model merging. Run locally, nothing leaves your computer. If you want to try it before you install, Comfy Cloud gives new users 5 free cloud runs, and the cloud terms say Comfy will not train models on your inputs or outputs.

Where it falls short. The node-graph interface takes time to learn, and the Desktop app eases only the install. Local use needs a capable GPU. There is no built-in character manager. The cloud terms do not address adult content, and they ban CSAM, non-consensual intimate imagery and impersonation. On the cloud plan, credits do not roll over and no per-image price is published.

Free option. The local app is free, with no limit. Your cost is hardware and power.

Who it suits. Users with a capable GPU who want full control and full privacy.

2. Promptchan: the best free start without a GPU

Promptchan is the best free start if you do not have a GPU. Its free plan gives a daily allowance of Gems for images and chat, and its plans page says no card is required.

What it does well. It is the easiest start of the seven: a web app with presets and no setup. Tweak edits outfit, background, pose and lighting by text while keeping a character’s look. Styles include realistic, anime, fantasy and illustration. In private mode, Promptchan takes no rights to your images. On Trustpilot it has 4.3 out of 5 from 195 reviews, a third-party figure.

Where it falls short. The daily Gem amount on the free plan is not stated, and neither is the Gem cost per image. Inpainting and upscaling are not listed. Age is a self-declaration in the terms, with no verification method described. Training use of prompts is not stated.

Free option. A daily allowance of free Gems; the amount is not stated.

Who it suits. Beginners who want quick images from a browser.

3. NovelAI: a short trial for anime styles

NovelAI Image Generation has the most private hosted service here, but its free option is a one-time trial.

What it does well. The NovelAI subscription docs list a Paper trial with 30 image generations. The models, NovelAI Diffusion V5, V4.5, V4, Anime V3 and Furry V3, focus on anime and furry art. Character Reference and Vibe Transfer help keep a character the same, and editing includes inpainting, image-to-image, upscaling and Director Tools. The FAQ says requests, uploads and generations are not logged or stored, and users keep all rights.

Where it falls short. Realism is limited. After the trial, you must pay. V5 has usage limits even on the top plan.

Who it suits. Anime fans who want to try before paying for a private service.

4. Civitai Red: free browsing, earned credits

Civitai Red has the largest library of community models and LoRAs, and third-party sources say Buzz credits can be earned on the site.

What it does well. Browsing is free. The catalog of community checkpoints and LoRAs is the largest here, with Flux and SDXL families in the generator, according to third-party sources. The reported cost per image is the lowest of the hosted services: an SDXL image costs about 4 to 6 Buzz, roughly $0.005 at 1,000 Buzz per $1, according to third-party sources.

Where it falls short. How much Buzz you can earn for free is not stated. Official pages blocked automated access, so several facts are third-party, and editing tools, ownership and privacy terms are not published. Payment options on Red are limited, and third-party sources report that UK access is blocked. Trustpilot shows 1.6 out of 5 from 40 reviews, a third-party figure.

Who it suits. Users who want community LoRAs and low per-image costs.

5. Candy.ai: one free image

Candy.ai makes images of a companion you build inside a chat app. Its free account includes 5 messages, 1 custom character and 1 image.

What it does well. Images stay on one saved character, built from appearance options, with outfit, background and pose choices. No setup is needed. The yearly plan is cheap at $3.99 a month.

Where it falls short. One free image is a preview, not a free tier. There are no inpainting or upscaling tools. Content may train EverAI’s models, and users grant EverAI a perpetual license to their content. The token cost per image is not published officially; a third-party source puts it at about 4 tokens, from a grant of 100 tokens a month.

Who it suits. Users who want chat and matching images in one app.

6. Unstable Diffusion: no free tier, flat paid plan

Unstable Diffusion has no ongoing free tier, but its paid plan is flat-rate.

What it does well. It offers more than 120 models, including Flux, Seedream, SDXL, Pony and Illustrious, and over 40,000 LoRA influences. The $30 Pro plan gives unlimited standard generations. Reference images help keep characters consistent.

Where it falls short. The plans page mentions only a possible time-limited trial. Personal data is kept indefinitely unless you ask for deletion, all images are visible for moderation review and output ownership is not stated.

Free option. None ongoing; a trial may be offered.

Who it suits. Heavy users who will pay for unlimited standard generations.

7. Seduced: no free tier

Seduced has over 30 adult-focused models and video, but no free tier.

What it does well. Styles range from realistic to anime and 3D. Saved characters can be reused, and users own their outputs. On the Pro plan, an image costs about $0.10, if one image uses one credit.

Where it falls short. There is no free option. The cheapest way in is a $10 two-day trial with 40 credits. Video needs the $60 Platinum plan, and inpainting is not listed.

Which one should you choose?
