How we compared

We compared six alternatives to CrushOn.AI on the seven dimensions of our text desk: models and context, characters and tools, content rules, message limits, privacy and training, age verification, and user reports. We also compared starting price, free tier and platforms. The table above shows every fact side by side, last checked on 25 October 2026.

Every fact comes from the services’ own pricing pages, terms, privacy policies and help articles. Review site figures come from third-party sources and are marked as such. Where a service does not publish a fact, we say “Not stated” or “not published”.

For this report we weighed the dimensions by the reasons people give for leaving CrushOn.AI. Privacy and training come first, because CrushOn.AI’s own policy says chats are used to train its models. Message limits come next, because the free tier runs on 100 credits a month. Context, content rules and platforms follow. Price decides less here, because CrushOn.AI already has one of the lowest paid entry prices on the desk.

CrushOn.AI is in our full text desk comparison, where JanitorAI is the overall pick. This report starts from CrushOn.AI and asks which site to choose instead. Our full process is on the methodology page.

Why do people look for a CrushOn.AI alternative?

CrushOn.AI has a low yearly price, many tiers with published limits, and free models that use no credits. Five limits push users to look elsewhere.

Chats train its models. The privacy policy says chat content is used to train models in a general way that is not linked to specific users. Of the seven text sites we compare, it is the only one that says so plainly.

Free chats disappear. Free chat history is deleted after 7 days of inactivity. A user who takes a week off can lose a long roleplay.

Credits and complex tiers. Free users get 100 message credits a month, on shared capacity that may be slow at peak times. Paid tiers range from 2,000 to 125,000 credits, and unlimited use of Pro models needs a separate package at $24.99 a month. Tiers run from Standard, at $4.90 a month billed yearly, up to Imperial at $150 a month.

Content and age checks. The guidelines ban minors and aged-up characters, realistic images of people, bestiality and some fetish acts. A third-party report says some regions need a paid age check before the 18+ toggle can be turned on.

User reports and platforms. On Trustpilot, CrushOn.AI has 1.8 out of 5 from 22 reviews, with complaints about the paid age check, billing and support (third-party). It is web only.

Each alternative below fixes one or more of these limits.

JanitorAI: why is it our pick?

JanitorAI is our pick because it removes the credit system without a price. It is free with no published message cap, and it is the overall pick of our text desk.

What it does well. The FAQ lists no message cap on the free tier, so there are no credits to count. The free JLLM model has about 8k to 9K tokens of context, a little more than CrushOn.AI’s free 8K. The catalog of user-made bots is large, with personas, tags and scripts, and bots with sexual content carry the Limitless tag. You can connect your own API proxy, such as OpenRouter. It has apps on web, iOS and Android, while CrushOn.AI is web only.

Where it falls short. The privacy policy does not say whether chats train models. That is better than a policy that says they do, but it is not a clear no. NSFW is off by default in the mobile app. It bans minors, gore, bestiality and sexual violence, and it does not allow explicit avatar images. Users in Australia, Brazil and the UK must pass a k-ID age check. On Trustpilot it has 2.5 out of 5 from 35 reviews (third-party).

Price. Free. janitor+ costs $12.99 a month or $99 a year, which is $8.25 a month, for five times more context and faster replies when busy.

Who it suits. CrushOn.AI users who ran out of credits and want free chat with no published cap.

Chub AI: the pick if training use is the problem

Chub AI is the clearest fix for CrushOn.AI’s training policy among hosted sites.

What it does well. Its policy says private chats are not used for training and are not shared unencrypted. API inputs sent outside the Chub interface are not logged. The subscription includes all in-house models, among them Soji 1.6T with 60K context, more than twice CrushOn.AI’s top 24K. Subscribers get unlimited messages for one user. Chub says it does not meaningfully restrict characters or interactions, and it bans illegal content and sexualized minors. It has public character cards, lorebooks, chat trees and Stages add-ons.

Where it falls short. The subscription is paid in crypto only. The free option is a one-time grant of trial credits for a few dozen messages, unless you bring your own API key or local model. Concurrent requests return an error. It publishes no age check, and a third-party report says it is blocked in Australia. Trustpilot shows 3.4 out of 5 from only 3 reviews (third-party).

Price. $20 a month, in crypto.

Who it suits. Users who want long context, few content limits and private chats, and can pay in crypto.

NovelAI: the pick for encrypted stories

NovelAI is a story-writing tool with end-to-end encryption.

What it does well. Stories, lorebooks and scripts are encrypted with a key made from your password, and prompts are not kept. Every paid tier gives unlimited text generation, so there are no credits. GLM-4.6 and Xialong have 28,672 tokens of context on the site. The terms list no content-type bans and say user content is wholly the user’s own. It has lorebooks, modules, a text adventure mode and scripts.

Where it falls short. It has no public character catalog, so it does not replace CrushOn.AI’s character library. The free trial is capped at 50 text generations. A lost password means lost stories. It is web only, and the terms require users to be 18 or older without a published check. Trustpilot shows one review, at 3.4 out of 5 (third-party).

Price. Tablet $10 a month, Scroll $15 and Opus $25.

Who it suits. Writers who want private, unlimited story generation.

SillyTavern: the pick for full control

SillyTavern is free, open-source software that runs on your own computer.

What it does well. It has no message limits of its own and sets no content rules of its own. The docs say it does not track user data, and with a self-hosted model all text stays on your PC, so nothing can train on it. It has World Info lorebooks, group chats, personas, Data Bank RAG, scripting and extensions. It connects to OpenAI-compatible APIs, KoboldAI, Tabby, AI Horde and local backends.

Where it falls short. It needs installation with Node.js, and you must bring a model. Local models need a capable GPU, and hosted backends set their own limits. There is no official support channel and no age check.

Price. Free under the AGPL-3.0 license. Model costs depend on the backend.

Who it suits. Users who want no credits, no training and no rules beyond their model’s.

AI Dungeon: the pick for text adventures

AI Dungeon is a text adventure tool with free story models and a published context table.

What it does well. Its pricing page lists free story models as unlimited. Paid tiers give 8k, 16k, 32k or 64K context, depending on tier. The Mature setting does not limit sexual or violent output, and a filter blocks sexual content involving minors. It has hundreds of community scenarios, Story Cards and Plot Components, and runs on web, iOS and Windows.

Where it falls short. Free models have only 2k to 4K context, less than CrushOn.AI’s free 8K. Stories are encrypted with keys held on the server, and a third-party report says the Improve the AI training setting is on by default for new users, so it does not fix the training problem unless you change that setting. Age is a self-confirmation. Steam rates it Mixed from 810 reviews (third-party).

Price. Journey $14.99 a month, Legend $29.99, Mythic $49.99 and Ultimate $99.99.

Who it suits. Users who want guided adventures and free play without credits.

SpicyChat: the pick for roleplay tools

SpicyChat is the closest hosted match to CrushOn.AI’s character chat, with more structured tools.

What it does well. It has user-made chatbots with lorebooks, rulebooks with meters, group chat, director mode and personas. It publishes a model and context table, with DeepSeek, Kimi and Qwen models. Paid tiers get unlimited messages and skip waiting lines. It has an Android app as well as web.

Where it falls short. The free and $5.95 tiers have only 4,096 tokens of context, half of CrushOn.AI’s free 8K. True Supporter at $19.95 gives 8K, and only I’m All In at $29.95 reaches 32K. The privacy policy does not state training use. The guidelines ban minors, non-consent, incest, step-family themes and real people. Third-party video selfie or ID checks apply in the UK, France, Italy, Australia and 26 US states. Trustpilot shows 2.0 out of 5 from 62 reviews (third-party).

Price. Get A Taste $5.95 a month, True Supporter $19.95 and I’m All In $29.95. Prices rose on 8 September 2026.

Who it suits. Users who want rulebooks, group chat and director mode, and who will pay for the top tier’s context.

How do the alternatives compare with CrushOn.AI?

  • Privacy and training. CrushOn.AI trains on chats. Chub AI excludes private chats, NovelAI encrypts end to end, and SillyTavern can run locally. JanitorAI and SpicyChat do not say.
  • Age verification. CrushOn.AI has a paid check in some regions (third-party). SpicyChat and JanitorAI use third-party checks in some places. The others rely on self-declaration.
  • Platforms. CrushOn.AI, NovelAI and Chub AI are web only. JanitorAI has iOS and Android apps, SpicyChat has Android, and AI Dungeon has iOS and Windows.

Which one should you choose?

Choose JanitorAI if credits are the problem. It is free with no published message cap, has slightly more free context than CrushOn.AI, and has apps on iOS and Android. janitor+ costs $99 a year if you need more.

Choose Chub AI if training use of your chats is the problem and you can pay $20 a month in crypto. Choose NovelAI for encrypted, unlimited stories from $10 a month. Choose SillyTavern if you want no credits, no training and no hosted rules, and can install software. Choose AI Dungeon for text adventures and SpicyChat for roleplay tools.

If you stay with CrushOn.AI, log in at least once a week on the free tier, because free chat history is deleted after 7 days of inactivity.

Our pick

JanitorAI

Free community character chat with no published message cap and a large catalog, held back by a small free context window.

Questions readers ask

What is the best alternative to CrushOn.AI?

JanitorAI. It is free with no published message cap, its free model has about 9K tokens of context, and it runs on web, iOS and Android. janitor+ costs $12.99 a month or $99 a year for five times more context.

Which CrushOn.AI alternative does not train on my chats?

Chub AI says private chats are not used for training. NovelAI encrypts stories end to end and does not keep prompts. SillyTavern with a local model keeps all text on your computer. JanitorAI, SpicyChat and AI Dungeon do not give a clear no: the first two do not say, and a third-party report says AI Dungeon's training setting is on by default for new users.

Is there a free CrushOn.AI alternative without credits?

Yes. JanitorAI lists no message cap on its free tier, and AI Dungeon lists its free story models as unlimited, though with only 2k to 4K context. SillyTavern is free software with no message limits of its own; you supply the model.

Is there a cheaper alternative to CrushOn.AI?

On price alone, CrushOn.AI's Standard tier at $4.90 a month billed yearly is the lowest paid entry here. SpicyChat's lowest tier is $5.95 a month, and janitor+ works out at $8.25 a month billed yearly. JanitorAI and SillyTavern are free.

Do CrushOn.AI alternatives keep my chat history?

CrushOn.AI deletes free chat history after 7 days of inactivity. None of the six alternatives publishes a rule like that. NovelAI stores stories encrypted with your password, so a lost password means lost stories, and SillyTavern keeps chats on your own computer.
